An unusually warm and dry autumn has meant that nearly all the cattle and sheep are still out in the fields enjoying the seasonal temperatures. The calves will soon have to be weaned though as they are now 8 months old, and fast catching up with their mothers. As yet our maize harvest is still to do, but hopefully this will be completed next week if the weather holds.
With the recent opening of Bakergirl we have noticed an increase in footfall, and more particularly in the number of cars, and our newly extended car park is already full at peak times. We apologize to any of our customers if they have to hike to the shop! Hopefully things will settle down in a week or two.
Halloween is fast approaching, so do come along and see the giant pumpkin we have been given. It was grown at Broughton Grange, and customers are being asked to guess its weight to win a £50 Gift voucher to spend in the Farm Shop. Entries cost £1 and all proceeds will go to Katharine House Hospice.
We held our first Cheese & Wine Tasting evening at the beginning of October and judging by the amount of cars that were abandoned overnight I think the evening can be deemed a success! It was refreshing to have Mike White from North Oxfordshire Wines giving youthful & unpretentious wine advice while Simeon Hudson Evans from Aubrey Allen provided cheesy stories and anecdotes relatively late into the night!
In the butchery department we are delighted to welcome Chris Tredwell into the team. Chris has many years of butchery experience having previously run his own shop in Kings Sutton and more recently worked in a farm shop near Brackley. A keen racing man he will be very happy to share his tips (WPFS will not be held responsible for any duff information given!)
With the daylight hours shortening, our thoughts are turning to Christmas, and for those keen to prepare ahead our Christmas order forms are available in the shop or to download on our website.
